Restorative Circles, and Manhattan Liason

Hello Hello,

It has been quite some time since you have all heard from me or Gregg.

There is so much I want to update you on; however at this time I am feeling more compelled to talk about our Manhattan Liaison, Shana Deane and Restorative Circles.

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome another trainer to our Community. Shana Deane (our Manhattan Liaison on our Meet up) is a wonderful friend and teacher I have known for about four years now. She is an integral part of our lives and learning, as well as being an Associate Trainer with Brooklyn NVC. Ms. Deane has been studying and practicing Restorative Circles since 2007, with another NVC trainer I have heard so much about, his name is Dominic Barter.

Gregg, Shana and Brooklyn NVC (aka) Dian Killian, all speak very highly of Dominic Barter's unique NVC-oriented Restorative Circles, which is what he will be teaching and sharing in NYC this March over a three day period. This is his first teaching event on the east coast! (He lives in Brazil, where he has spent the past 11 years honing this transformative process that fits in with any arena. I.e.: schools, families, communities, organizations, prisons, etc. )

I am so excited for the opportunity to experience Dominic and his work in person. The circles were spoken about at the Diversity retreat I attended over the summer and my daughter, who will be attending this event as well, was grateful to learn about a different way to restore connection.

I am looking forward learning, growth, and another way to apply the principles of NVC in to our existing systems. Let me know if you would like to travel as a group that would be fun! Please feel free to pass this along to any person you think might be interested.

Upcoming Possibilities

Hey Everyone,

I am hoping all is well for you. Things here are a bit challenging, however on the upswing.

Thanks so much for all the well wishes about my nephew, his recovery is coming along, a little to slow for all of us, but its happening!!! Carl is still not truly awake, but he has been transferred to a facility where he has begun therapy. I am not truly wanting to put this into our newsletter so if you want more info please contact me personally. I want to share that I am grateful for all the love and support.

So let's see what is on the agenda, Gregg and I are talking about doing a class in January at the Huntington location, I will post that on the meet up, as well as send a letter. We are going to be doing classes in January in the format of a Foundatins One, I will put all the dates on the meet up, and possibly the website if I have it up soon. Oh Yeah, I am so excited about this piece, He and I are going to begin working with the great South Bay YMCA in a program called Teen Rec night. This is an opportunity for the children who are not members of the Y to utilize the facility. It is a wonderful program run by the Y and supported by a local bank in the community. We will be interacting and providing a space for the kids to share and grow in. I am really jazzed and excited the Y is offering us this privilege.

So yeah, Gregg and I are going to start a practice group, the location will be in Bay shore. We are also working on the meditation night and as soon as we can get our schedules together we will let you know about that.

I will also be teaching with Ken Snyder in January, We will be teaching at the Shelter Rock U.U. Ken is a long standing member there as well as an NVC practitioner. He has been practicing for 10 years now and is a wonderful resource. For me it is a pleasure and a joy to be able to support him in this project he has been working on. I have listed all the information on our meet up.

Okay so let's talk about Kelly Bryson. He will be coming to NY in January which is not in Nov, has asked if we would postpone the details of his visit. I am going to provide his link so you can get a taste of what he would like to share with us. I find it is in alignment with my values as far as supporting community and shared reality.

Dian Killian, who was here with us over the summer is having some wonderful events, and one in particular I want to mention is The Facilitate change program happening right here in Wading river. This is an opportunity to live the NVC principles in community for 4 days, four times a year. We will also be learning how to bring change to the places you work or value working in. I am so excited to have this support and growth available, I am just bubbling over with curiosity.

www.FacilitateChange.org … She is also asking for registration by Nov. 15th

I am also glad to see our community has expanded, I am not sure all parties are familiar with each other. I want to mention Carol Fealy, teacher, and practitioner is available for counseling, and support. She can be reached at http://fealzwonderful.com/

I am currently working on bringing a family camp event closer to us. I am looking for a place to host an event for us, please let me know if you have any places in mind. I am also looking for support around a few things, like building a data base, and a website; if you are interested in an energetic exchange please let me know.

Love and light,

Suzi

NVC Diversity Retreat

Hey Everyone,

I just attended the NVC Diversity Retreat In New York. Not only did I have a wonderful time being in Community, which consisted of around fifty people, all practicing NVC, with a topic of Diversity to explore. I was amazed at the safe place the five trainers were able to create. It was a space where we could talk about the segregation and opression that still goes on in our society, and hearts, and knew we would be held and cared for instead of looked at in distaine or with mistrust. I found myself in awe at the openess and lifting feeling that maintined the entire week. I learend so much about how we are seen, as humans in this culture which is so full and rich with color and ethnicity. Things I knew, but did notrealize I held, and yet I was able to have compassion for myself, and others to the point where I could be honest and know I was just human. Oh yeah and to put the cherry on top, my daughter also attended!!!

For me it was about awareness, I am a white female, and was hoping for awareness and understanding about how I am seen and what can be stimulating that awkward uneasy feeling I sometimes feel when I am the only person of "whiteness" in a room of diverse colors. I found the retreat truly opened my eyes. I learned about the systems that are presently in place, and reached an awareness that change is needed. I came to beleive the changes start within ourselves around bluring the lines of separation, and being willing to look at what is it in ourselves that caused this to happen. I do not know how to make the changes our world needs to heal, I have an idea, of what I beleive will be a valuable transition, and some connections, that may foster the changes, and hope to assist in this long awaited transition. Change starts from within, awareness is key.

I realize I am wanting more awarenss about the systems, which are are in place in just about every format of our lives. Education, Social, workplace, personally, also with our government, and so much more. I had a realization about my personal system. I came to realize, why I was scared in a room of diverse colors. My family spoke these things around me about black poeple and Spanish people, and Irish people. I realized even though I said I was not prejudice, I still held these things in my being. Once I saw that, I felt it melt away, and now I can have compassion for myself, and connection to other races. Man does that feel great, so much bigger. Life has been expanded. I beleive awareness is key, and with that being said, it is my desire to learn more about as many of the systems I can. I am hoping to see how I, we can inititate a change!!!! Blog me up and let's talk!!!

Dians workshop

Hey wow finally a place we can post information about local, and than some, NVC events and information. What fun!!! This will be the place we share our newsletter, and feed back. The cool thing is, you can post stuff also. Yay!!!

Now lets get into this weekends event. This weekend July 25, and 26 was the first weekend we brought a certified trainer, Dian Killian in to teach NVC. Though attendance was small, the workshop was a huge success.

The Bellport U.U. is just wonderful, it is located right on the water, so it was a nice experience to have such a great view while we were practicing. I want to extend an appreciation for Eve and Arlene for all their help and support. Thanks ladies!!! For me being is a space that beautiful and practicing in community, with Dian brought about a feeling of comfort and connection that was truly exquisite. Dian just exudes NVC so learning and practicing came with such ease and joy, I am not sure I can capture that in words.

Let's see...Fridays event was different in that instead of teaching "the model" from the point of practicing it as we are first taught, O.F.N.R., she used our real time experiences and showed the four components of the model in that way. It felt so natural I must admit, I found that to be something that has stuck with me, and look forward to the possibilities around our intro's The games and activities were fun, yet practical, so we were giving and receiving empathy, and also guiding each other at the same time, and not even realizing it. Ahh Sweet Empathy!!! Such a wonderfully, fulfilling gift to give and receive.

Okay Okay so enough from me, I would like to invite those who did attend to say something about your experience. If it feels good and you are willing feel free to chat me up some!!!!
